Sunday Nights Radio: Eudaimonia, Lakes and Limits

A discussion regarding eudaimonia, a life well lived, in contrast with Transhumanist philosophy which discards free will and agency, and Prussian school of education

This past Sunday Nights Radio covered a range of topics. With so much emphasis on what occurs online, witnessing and celebrating the “analog” moments in life, such as great musicianship, is inspiring. Acquiring that skill comes at a cost, and we used to appreciate that.

We hit many topics related to learning skills, expanding your kid’s horizons and how AI is offered as a more effective tool to prepare them to live a good life. Eudaimonia, a life lived by using your talents to their maximal and by adhering to a moral code is what Aristotle described as a virtuous life. That is can be compromised if AI does the thinking for you. We also discuss how AI in education will isolate people, and the opportunities a parent can miss if they outsource those teachable moments to a tech platform. More time spent in front of a screen is less time in a community where a different type of learning takes place as we interact with those closest to us.

Since it’s summer, we also take a look at the beauty of Lake Michigan. The best type of digital detox is when you can get out and enjoy nature. Hopefully you enjoy that footage - what I can depict, even with the best camera and photos, pales to being there so I hope you can experience your own version of nature’s restorative powers in these few remaining weeks of summer.
