I would rather go back to villages that are self ruling, I think we are already where we fear, its is simply a battle for who has the control. Trying to think of a movie, was it Cloud Atlas … I do not know. I think Trump is right if he is still moving in that direction. America does need to stand alone and we do have to get rid of foreign lawmakers, all of the Supreme Court rulings, allow contracts to help us solve problems, living in smaller areas. I know I am all over the place again, there is a concept in this brain… I trust you to self govern, I know I can, I do not trust the behavior of humans, the greed and lust for power and unfortunately, people with average IQ’s do need leaders…. Look at the Amish, they live with their laws, they are cooperative, they help people… I would rather America go back to that ….

I haven’t seen Cloud Atlas, was it good? Large cast including Tom Hanks, right?

Yes, each one played 3 or for different characters, it could have been better but the point was, that triggered my thought was AI ultimate control to the point of separating society from real humans and disposable genetically engineered. Deemed to be the perfectly featured Asian female, collared and eliminated when the Engineered boss presses the collar and the they die. They are recycled into food. 4 periods of time, 18th century, 20th, 22nd and primitive. The mark on the chosen ones is like a Haley’s comet birth mark. Tom Hanks. Haley Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Susan Sarandon, so many more. It’s about how peoples lives, regardless of the cosmic timeline are intertwined and influence each other. Sort of karmic reincarnation in the same branch of the tree of life. The cluster of leaves has a cosmic relationship. The timeline in Korea is 22nd century, dystopian cloned humanoid when one who has the mark gets rescued and see a part of human life that clones are forbidden . Solzhenitsyn writings are exposed to her ( or a portion of) …. The book is much better but watching the movie does help you keep the myriad of characters, eras, it begins in the 23rd century with Hanks telling folklore, but the 23rd century looks like a hunter gatherer society.

Author is David Mitchell…. The fact that someone even took this on to create a screen play from this novel was a very brave goal. Worth watching, better if you read the book.

That sounds intriguing, including the Soylent Green aspect.

I think you are right. Alex Karp says a lot of things that would make people feel safe and would be willing to allow him to control the technocratic autocratic government. No matter what, I do not trust people or their lust for power. There are good things, we have to stay ahead of the game but we need a real oversight. Audits by independent companies, nothing will ever be trustworthy. Everyone can be bought unless you choose not to. He has Marxist influences, I do not think those just disappear. He could have gone anywhere but he chose Frankfurt. However if I had to pick right now, I would choose him. Is there a different man behind the curtain? Probably, but we the people have to insist on regulations and not necessarily approved by our Rep’s but voted on State by State with some Federal regulations as baselines. If it is as transparent as he says, if it can pull together data from different sources and see them all side by side, then of course that is a good thing. But behavior is unpredictable. Even within ourselves. There are things I would never do, but would I, if I were in the situation that called for me to have to violate my own rules? We have too much government but the more technologically advanced we become we either have to insist on governmental controls with accountability to us or we will become the Technocratic Society led by the few, deciding what is good for the many. I do not like that at all.

You have a great point in that Alex could have gone anywhere, yet chose Habermas. And for a PhD that was a feather in his cap. Alex is VERY talented. I can see him easily confer with others w/ advanced degrees in prominent positions and avoid being socially clumsy. He is so adept at guiding communication. In other circumstances he could be an intriguing person work for if he did have this background from the Critical Theory crowd.
